WELS

Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod

In 1850, five congregations in and around Milwaukee, Wisconsin joined together for mutual strength and encouragement. Since then, the WELS has grown to over 390,000 members with congregations throughout the United States and Canada.

As a group of Christians who take seriously Christ’s command to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) the WELS operates world mission fields in 17 foreign countries.

WELS operates a Seminary to train pastors, a teacher training college, and two preparatory high schools – Luther Prep in Watertown, WI and Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI. Associations of congregations around the country also operate 21 area Lutheran High Schools. Individual congregations also operate over 300 Lutheran Elementary schools and over 350 early childhood learning centers.
